YouTuber Issy Smart of the UK (@issy.knits) paid homage to the 90s-era female-fronted band Hole by handcrafting a sweater vest featuring the iconic art of their 1994 album Live Through This.
At MISFITS LA, we’re believers in the shared experience of extracting beauty from pain through our creative practices, and many angsty grrlies know that the band Hole’s work seems to exemplify it. Sure, there’s therapy, but have you tried tending to the aftermath of a nervous breakdown by belting the raw lyrics of “Violet” or “Doll Parts?” No matter your take on frontwoman Courtney Love’s controversies, the album cover for their Live Through This (1994) is a symbol of staying glam in the midst of trauma — drippy eyeliner and all.
“Live Through This is one of my favourite albums and has carried me through some funky periods. Also, I just love the album visually. I felt like trying out my most complex intarsia project yet on such an important album would be a good fit, and give me something substantial to sink my teeth into and reignite my love of knitting,” Smart told Misfits LA.
